The Significant Journey
Abbas Muhammad 11/03/2006 901 H.S.S.I.S Narrative Essay: The Significant Journey There I was, frozen by fear. The dogs were running towards me, barking and growling at the top of their lungs, and all I could do was stand there and stare into space. Then, I heard my cousin shout, "Muhammad, what are you doing? Run!”
A missile fired down from space into Egypt into me as a spirit going back to its body. There I was, in Egypt, seeing the dogs come toward me. Then, slowly, I began to move backwards to the door of the house. Right after I got in, I shut the door, and my cousins and me were relieved. We laughed heartily about what happened. It was in the middle of the night in Egypt, the house was quiet except the sound of our hearts beating. So, all in all, everybody was asleep while my cousins and I were getting chased by dogs. My family went to Egypt because my father passed away, which we didn't get over after 3 months. So, my mother sent us because she couldn't handle both us and the deli grocery store. When I went to Egypt, I met my relatives. My cousins and me threw rocks at each other and played hide and seek. Egypt was like a big playground with no adults and rules we had to follow. The only bad part was that the streets were full of cracks, sand and rocks were everywhere and the ground was so hot that when you spilled water on it, cracks would form. One good thing I loved Egypt for was my aunt Isma. Aunt Isma had a funnypersonality like a kid which made her special; she would be a kid when she wants to and also be an adult at the same time. My aunt and I would stay up till 5 am in the morning watching TV. One night, I couldn't go to sleep because I was too excited. While I was on my bed thinking about what life would be like if my mom, my aunt, and I lived together, I heard footsteps and it was my aunt who came in. When I was about to say hi, I kept quiet because I was supposed to be asleep. Then, it happened. I didn't know what she was doing at first. Then, I saw her slowly sitting down, putting her hand inside my suitcase, taking out a couple of clothes, and closing the suitcase quietly. She walked away, with an evil smile printed on her face. After this event, I lost my innocence and gained experience about life and how the world rotates. This was significant to me because this was where I matured and passed another step to being an adult, and it also hurt because this was a person I loved, and one that I looked up to.
